Why walls crack in Tulsa and Oklahoma City
Most of the drywall cracks Danco repairs have the same cause, and it is not the drywall. Much of Oklahoma sits on clay soil that swells in wet months and shrinks hard in a dry summer. The slab or pier-and-beam foundation moves a little with it, and the first place that movement shows is a hairline crack running diagonally from a door or window corner, a seam opening along a ceiling, or a nail pop where the screw head pushes through. Humidity swings between summer and winter add to it, especially in older homes.
Here is the honest version of cosmetic versus structural. Hairline cracks at corners and seams that come and go with the seasons are cosmetic, and they get a proper repair. Cracks that are wider than a nickel is thick, that run in a stair-step pattern through brick outside, that come with doors sticking and floors sloping, or that reopen within weeks of a good repair are a foundation conversation first. Danco will tell you which one it is, because a perfect patch on a moving wall is a waste of your money.
Drywall repair Danco handles
- Settling cracks at door and window corners, along ceiling seams, and at wall corners
- Holes from doorknobs, furniture, and the ones nobody admits to
- Water damage from roof leaks, plumbing, and overflowed tubs, including sagging or stained ceilings
- Nail pops and loose tape that keep showing through new paint
- Popcorn ceiling repair or removal and retexture (older ceilings get tested first)
- Patching after electrical, plumbing, or HVAC work left access holes in walls and ceilings
Texture matching is the whole job
Nearly every home in the Tulsa and Oklahoma City metros has textured walls and ceilings: orange peel on most houses from the 1980s on, knockdown on newer builds, hand textures and smooth plaster on the older neighborhoods. A patch that is smoother or coarser than the wall around it shows through any paint, from any angle, forever.
So after a repair is taped and floated with several thin, progressively wider coats of compound, it gets re-textured to match the existing pattern, then spot-primed so it does not flash, then painted. Orange peel blends easily. Knockdown takes more care to match the size and spacing of the pattern. Danco practices on a scrap board first when the texture is unusual. The goal is that you cannot find the patch when the job is done.
Sheetrock installation
New sheetrock for garage conversions, finished attics and bonus rooms, basements, additions, closets, and walls opened up during a remodel. Danco hangs the board, tapes the seams, floats three coats of compound with each one wider than the last, sands, textures to match the rest of the house or leaves it smooth, and primes with a drywall primer before paint.
That primer matters more than people think. New drywall and fresh compound absorb paint at different rates; skip the primer and the finished wall shows every seam and screw as a slightly different sheen. It is the most common shortcut on new drywall and the easiest one to avoid.
Painted to match, not just patched
Because Danco is a painting company first, a drywall repair does not end with a bare patch and a suggestion to call a painter. The repair gets primed and painted, and if the existing color cannot be matched invisibly on a single spot, Danco will tell you and recommend repainting corner to corner so the wall reads as one. See interior painting for how the full repaint is handled.

Drywall questions
Yes. Orange peel, knockdown, and most hand textures are matched before paint so the repair disappears. Danco tests unusual textures on a scrap board first.
Hairline cracks at door and window corners and along seams that move with the seasons are usually cosmetic and get repaired properly. Cracks wider than a nickel is thick, stair-step cracks in exterior brick, sticking doors, sloping floors, or a repair that reopens within weeks point to the foundation. Danco will tell you which one it is before quoting anything.
Yes. Repair-only jobs are welcome: a cracked corner, a water-stained ceiling, a hole from a doorknob or a plumber, or a patch another contractor left rough. Danco repairs it, matches the texture, and primes it so it is ready for whoever paints, including you. Call (918) 935-1780 and describe what you have; small repairs are often done in a single visit.
Small patches are usually done in a day, with a return visit for texture and paint once the compound has dried. Larger repairs and new sheetrock take several days because each coat of compound has to dry before the next one goes on. Rushing it is how you get cracks and ridges.
Yes, once the leak is fixed. Damaged board is cut out and replaced, seams are taped and floated, the texture is matched, and a stain-blocking primer goes on before paint so the stain does not bleed back through.
